The 'enfant terrible' of French fashion, Jean Paul Gaultier has become famous all over the world thanks to his eccentricity, his inclusiveness, and his gender-neutral wardrobe. Between eclecticism and rebelliousness, each collection aims to portray the world in all its diversity and facets. In 1970, despite never having attended fashion school, Gaultier was hired as Pierre Cardin's assistant after sending him some sketches that impressed him. His style was known for the 'shock effect', for incorporating feminine elements such as the skirt into a man's wardrobe, or for using the corset as the main element of every outfit. He also put his employees on the catwalk, as well as friends, neighbors, fashion editors, and people he scouted on the street.
